Rimvydas Ivoskis is a Lithuanian photographer born in 1986. In 2010 he relocated to London and was immediately captivated by the city's energy. The stark contrast to his quiet hometown inspired him to delve deeper into his passion for street photography, developing a fresh perspective of the city. In this photographic series, the artist offers an exploration of the urban landscape and human condition through the lens of London's streets. From 2011 to 2013, he approached street photography as a full-time job, spending long hours wandering the streets "at work", just like the people he was photographing. Alongside this he spent weekends working as a nightclub photographer to fund his passion for street photography. "Work Days" represents the culmination of this intensive three-year period and is the first public viewing of Ivoskis's work.
His photographs, rendered in striking black and white, offer a gritty and evocative portrayal of London. The artist's gaze is drawn to the well-dressed men in suits, a sight that fascinated him as a newcomer from Lithuania. The images capture the relentless pace of life, with subjects depicted in a state of perpetual motion, rushing to achieve their goals and navigate the complexities of modern existence. This encourages viewers to contemplate the social constructs that govern our daily lives.
This series serves as a testament to the notion that observation can reveal profound truths about a city's character and the human experience that unfolds within its boundaries. The artist invites the viewers to pause, reflect, and appreciate the often overlooked beauty that resides within the daily grind.
